The new Palmerton Area High School opened in September 1965 on Fireline Road, just north of the Palmerton borough proper, but the new football field was not yet completed.

So, for the 1965 season Palmerton continued to play its football games at the Delaware Avenue field. The first game in 1966 against Dieruff was played at Slatington’s Alumni Field, since the new field was still not ready. The first game under the lights at the new Blue Bomber field was a 13-6 loss to Whitehall on 23 September 1966.
In September 2017, the field was upgraded with the installation of a new synthetic turf field and an all-weather track.
