Edgar Moyer Acker (1910-1974) was born in Allentown. A graduate of Allentown High School, he attended the New York School of Fine and Applied Art, followed by Kutztown State Teachers College. After a year of teaching (1935-36) at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, he was hired by the Slatington School Board in August 1936 to be an art teacher and the instructor and director of the band, which was being formed for that school year. Acker remained in Slatington until August 1942 when he resigned to continue a position with the Aldrich Pump Company of Allentown.

Acker later was employed by the Allentown School District as an elementary art and music specialist for twenty-five years.
He married Edith Rickert (1913-1996) in 1937, and they had two daughters. Husband and wife were buried in Grandview Cemetery, Allentown.
Edgar was a talented flute and piccolo player.
