"Nicholas “Trucker” Kern's sawmill on Trout Creek, near Lower Main Street, Slatington. A mill was established on this site before 1755, as Benjamin Franklin purchased lumber there to built Fort Allen during the French and Indian War. The mill shown here was built in 1850 by Nicholas Kern's great-grandson Jonas. This photo was taken about 1923."
