The L&NE Lehigh Gap bridge looms over the tracks in the distance. The faint easement line running above the train to the bridge is the L&NE's Palmerton Branch, which gradually descends into the Aquashicola Creek Valley to the L&NE's interchange yard with the Chestnut Ridge Railway at the East Palmerton plant of New Jersey Zinc (of Pennsylvania). It was dedicated in 1937 in honor of Norman Smith (1896-1926). It was a great place for a basketball game and stood behind the Lincoln elementary school. It was demolished in 1982 (along with the elementary building) to make room for a county housing facility. I always thought that the drinking trough for horses was the most interesting part of the monument.  There is a similar monument at Union Cemetery. The fountain stands in the bend of Main Street in front of the Presbyterian Church, which is no longer there. The Mountain View Apartments are at the site. The Pierce house in the background. Description An account of the resource The congregation first formed in town abut 1850, and the first stone (slate) structure was built about 1854. In 1874 construction was begun on the wooden frame building, which stood at the bend in Main Street. The parsonage was alongside the church, and to the west of the parsonage was a small cemetery.
